How do we get wrinkles?

Many wrinkles are actually creases created by making the same expression again and again and by prolonged exposure to UV light.

These are called "expression lines" or dynamic wrinkles (this includes frown lines, crow’s feet around the eyes, and forehead lines).

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a highly purified, naturally occurring protein which has the ability to very precisely relax the muscles to which it is applied. This relaxation lasts for a number of months, and then the treated muscles gradually return to their original condition.

BOTOX® Cosmetic does not affect the nerves responsible for sensation, so there is no numbness in the treated areas.

You can stop BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments at any time and you will gradually return to your pre-treatment appearance.

Regular use of BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment will lead to a long term reduction in wrinkles, in particular if you are careful to protect that skin from sun exposure and smoke.

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic Work?

The treated muscles usually start to relax within a day or two, and reach their maximum degree of relaxation within two weeks.

BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment at La Vie is ONLY performed by a certified physician.

BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments are very quick and gentle.

No general, or local anaesthesia needed. However we ALWAYS use anaesthetic cream on the skin surface to maximize your comfort.

You will be able to return to your daily activities immediately after the treatment.

We use the finest needles for that purpose and usually every injection is aimed at very specific muscle group that will provide the desirable wrinkles reduction.

Occasional patients experience a slight temporary bruising, usually a small size, at an injection site. This can be hidden with cover up, and fades away in a few days.

How much do BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments cost?

BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is very affordable even for those with modest incomes, but some people need to budget for it just as they would for buying accessories like shoes and having their hair styled.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is priced at $12 per unit.

The $50 cost of your consultation is credited toward the cost of your first BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment.

BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments may be a tax-deductible medical expense (similar to dental, orthodontic and cosmetic surgery bills), however please contact your accountant for more information.

Typical BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments use:

  • Glabellar frown lines: (between and just above the eyebrows) 25-40 units of BOTOX®Cosmetic
  • Upper forehead lines: 15-20 units of BOTOX® Cosmetic
  • Crow’s feet: (wrinkles and squint lines radiating outwards from the outer corners of the eyes) 20-40 units of BOTOX® Cosmetic
  • Anterior neck: (to reduce jowls, and to reduce vertical and horizontal lines on the anterior neck ) 30 - 40 units of BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Every treatment is personalized to each patient as such these ranges of unites are for informational purposes only.

Are there any special instructions for me to follow after treatment?

  1. Exercise the treated muscles during the two hours after your BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment by using those muscles to ensure optimal muscle uptake for BOTOX® Cosmetic.
  2. Do not touch or rub the treated areas until two hours after your BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment.

To avoid moving the BOTOX® Cosmetic out of the targeted muscle area.

This will ensure receiving the maximum result from the treatment and avoid any unwanted relaxation of the adjacent muscles.

What are the possible side effects?

There have been no long-term side effects, allergic reactions or health hazards related to BOTOX® Cosmetic use.

Who should not use BOTOX® Cosmetic ?

People who are pregnant, breast feeding, or with rare neurological disorders ( like Eaton-Lambert syndrome or myasthenia gravis) or who are allergic to albumin.

Does BOTOX®Cosmetics work for all kinds of wrinkles and skin folds?

 There are two types of wrinkles:

  1. Dynamic wrinkles: these wrinkles are result of the effect of underling muscle activities, reparative facial expressions and prolong exposure to UV light.

    Frown lines, crows feet and forehead lines are example of dynamic wrinkles.

    These wrinkles can be soften and reduced by BOTOX® Cosmetics.

  2. Static wrinkles: these wrinkles are usually deeper than dynamic ones and are result of maturing process, smoking and sun exposure.

    Smile lines would be an example of these wrinkles.

    These wrinkles can be significantly reduced by fillers in combination with BOTOX® Cosmetics.
