Derek Gilmer, Canadian Certified Pedorthist

Derek has always strived to live an active and healthy lifestyle which leads him to pursue a career in helping others stay active and mobile. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an Honors Degree in Kinesiology. During his degree he started to put his focus on biomechanics and athletic injuries. One of his professors suggested applying for a new program being offered at Western in the field of Pedorthics. Pedorthics is the design, manufacture, modification, fit and assessment of footwear and custom foot orthotics to help deal with pain, discomfort and disabilities in the legs and feet(Pedorthic Association of Canada). Derek completed the Professional Certificate in Pedorthics Program in 2003. After completing the program at Western, he headed back home to the Ottawa area where he grew up. He then completed an internship at a local foot care centre and later received his Designation as a Canadian Certified Pedorthist.

For the past 5 years, Derek has developed a passion for helping individuals live a healthier lifestyle by keeping them involved in the activities they love. Whether it’s advice on selecting proper fitting footwear or designing an orthotic to manage a complex condition his goal is to solve your problem and make you more comfortable. Please take a look at the information page describing the services Derek has to offer. You can also find him on the ski slopes or training for long distance running. Derek is excited to join the multidisciplinary team at La Vie and looks forward to alleviating your foot related pain with his personal touch.
